Lonnie Lee The Hillbilly Cat Show ST835
The tracks on this CD were recorded live at a Sydney venue.
Lonnie Lee presents the Hillbilly Cat, featuring the music and story of the young Elvis. It starts with the old 1933 song, My Happiness which he paid $4 to record for his mother in 1953 and travels through the different styles of music he sang in the early part of his career at Sun Records and RCA Records.
Before hearing these songs Lonnie was singing the hits of Johnnie Ray and Nat King Cole but in 1956, these Rockabilly songs then became his introduction to forge his own unique style. This would be the style which would take him to success as one of Australia’s first music Super Stars
The songs cover traditional Country music, Blues, Gospel, Cajun Rock, Hillbilly, Bluegrass and Rock’n’Roll. In his show, The Hillbilly Cat, these songs were tied together by brief, yet interesting stories about the young Elvis.
At the finale, 3 songs have been included to represent the most prolific writers and country stylists who paved the way for this young Elvis..They are Lefty Frizzell, Hank Williams and Webb Pierce.
